Caterpillar Inc. has launched its flagship rugged smartphone, the Cat S61, in New Zealand. It is the upgrade to the Cat S60, with enhanced FLIR thermal imaging capability, built-in laser assisted distance measuring, and an indoor air quality sensor.

The handset has a large 5.2” FHD screen, protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and optimised for outdoor use. Boasting tough and durable features, the Cat S61 is perfect for those in architecture, engineering, construction, or anyone who enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, boating, and biking.

Features include:

  • Its integrated laser assisted distance measure allows users to take point-to-point measurements of up to 8 metres and add dimensions or area estimates to images.
  • The integrated thermal imaging camera of the Cat S61 has been upgraded to be even sharper, with added colour palettes and a higher resolution with images displayed in HD, now measuring temperatures up to 400°C.
  • An indoor air quality monitor capable of measuring temperature, humidity and levels of air pollutants (VOCs), making it an important tool for air quality control.
  • The Cat S61 is drop-proof up to 1.8 metres and waterproof up to 3 metres for up to one hour, making it perfectly suited to rugged environments.

These new features and enhancements are essential where portability, connectivity, and greater image quality are necessary. Vehicle diagnostics, asphalt monitoring and higher temperature equipment monitoring are now possible with the Cat S61, in addition to the many other uses that include: detecting heat loss around windows and doors, spotting moisture and missing insulation, identifying overheating electrical appliances and overloaded circuitry, and seeing in complete darkness or through light fog or smoke.

The Cat S61 is now available online at PB Tech, and in Caterpillar dealerships, Gough, throughout New Zealand.
