Drought-affected farmers in Nelson still need help

Baz Hill of Mid-Canterbury Baling is looking to reduce transport costs for drought-affected farmers in Nelson by letting the industry know there are loads of hay available ex Canterbury.

Attention all carriers – a relief operation is underway to get much-needed feed to drought-affected farmers in the Nelson/Tasman regions.

With no meaningful rain in sight and a dry autumn predicted, the situation for many is dire. Baz Hill of Mid-Canterbury Bailing Ltd is coordinating the effort and said farmers are more than willing to pay.

“There might be trucks needing to relocate to the region, unaware of the loads,” said Hill. “We’re just looking for the best price to cart the hay, which is on a par with baleage at the moment. We have 1000 bales consolidated for transport currently.”
