Gov launches new Transport Network Performance Report

The Ministry of Transport has launched a new report providing information on how Aotearoa New Zealand’s air, road, rail, port and public transport networks are performing this function at a national level.
The quarterly Transport Network Performance Report is a way for the ministry to share information on the demand, supply, reliability, safety and user experience of transport in New Zealand, it said.
According to the Ministry of Transport New Zealand Household Travel Survey,: people in New Zealand spend around 1,600 million hours travelling about 54,000km; most of us travel in cars or vans (81%) and 31% use public transport; around three million people fly around or in and out of New Zealand each month; we import and export around two million containers each year and move millions of tonnes of freight around our country by road, rail, and ship each month.
“Being able to easily access these numbers at a national level helps people understand the data behind the decisions, provides background information for journalists and allows New Zealanders to see how our transport system is being used,” the ministry said.
“It can be used to find out how much we are using public transport, whether flights are on time more now than they were last year, how satisfied New Zealanders are with the road network, and much more.
“The report, which will be updated quarterly, provides this information transparently and without commentary. It does not assess performance against targets or analyse the drivers behind the data.
“We aim for this report to be a useful tool for journalists, policymakers, transport advocates and interested members of the public.”
The report, along with the data it is based on, is available on the Ministry of Transport website.
