The transport sector is being urged to join TruckSafe New Zealand, a comprehensive safety and risk management system that aims improve road safety in New Zealand.

TruckSafe members are independently audited against a set of minimum standards covering areas like driver competency, medicals, fatigue management, mass and load restraint, training, vehicle safety, well-being, and safety assurance systems.

Avid Plus manages TruckSafe member audits using the Audit Compliance Solutions digital auditing platform.

“We believe that TruckSafe will have a profound impact on road safety and operational standards. Avid Plus is proud to be part of this transformative initiative, working together to achieve safer roads and healthier workplaces.” said Robyn Bennett, Avid Plus.

Bennett said TruckSafe’s inclusive design is built for both large fleet operators and owner-drivers. Small operators, often lacking formal systems, now have the structure and guidance they need to achieve the same level of compliance as larger competitors.

David Boyce, CEO of the NZ Trucking Association and TruckSafe New Zealand director, said TruckSafe certification is a way to show customers, contractors, and the public that operators are committed to professionalism, safety, and continuous improvement.

“We’ve made the system easy to access and easy to use. With digital onboarding, GAP analysis tools, and full support from our team, we’re here to help operators succeed,” he said.

A Call to Action

TruckSafe is now live. Heavy vehicle operators across New Zealand are encouraged to visit www.trucksafe.net.nz to register, explore the standards, and begin the journey toward certification.

Government agencies, insurers, regulators, and prime contractors are invited to support the TruckSafe initiative as a vital industry-led mechanism for improving road safety outcomes, workforce well-being, and productivity.

“Unless we take a collaborative, industry-led approach to compliance, the injuries, fatalities, and costs will continue to rise. TruckSafe is our opportunity to change that trajectory, together,” said Boyce.

TruckSafe New Zealand will operate under the Transport Well New Zealand | Kawe Pai Aotearoa Charitable Trust and aligns with the trust’s future-focused, whole-systems industry approach.
