TruckSafe achieves 100% Tōtika health and safety rating

Tōtika, New Zealand’s pan-industry health and safety prequalification cross-recognition scheme, has formally reviewed and confirmed that the TruckSafe New Zealand certification programme officially meets Tōtika’s requirements for health and safety assurance.
As a result, TruckSafe has been officially registered as a cross-recognised audit and certification scheme under Tōtika. This means that any business certified through TruckSafe can receive a 100% Tōtika rating score, exempting them from the need to undertake a separate prequalification process.
Operated under the charitable trust Transport Well, TruckSafe New Zealand officially launched in April this year, aiming to lift standards across the entire transport and logistics sector.
“TruckSafe arrives at a critical time for New Zealand’s transport industry,” David Boyce, CEO of the NZ Trucking Association and TruckSafe New Zealand director said at launch.
“With ACC’s Fleet Saver programme no longer available to new applicants, and growing pressure on operators to improve critical risk management, TruckSafe fills a much-needed gap – offering practical, scalable tools that help operators of any size demonstrate compliance and improve their workplace safety.”
TruckSafe helps businesses:
- Implement structured, best-practice safety and risk management processes
- Reduce operational risk, downtime, and confusion
- Demonstrate compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, and the Land Transport Act
- Build trust with clients, regulators, and the public
- Attract and retain a skilled, safety-conscious workforce
- Simplify procurement and contracting through cross-recognition with Tōtika
- Improve safety culture and driver behaviour
TruckSafe certification is underpinned by independent audits conducted by experienced and qualified auditors. Audits assess your systems against the clearly defined, TruckSafe standards, many of which go beyond general health and safety systems like ISO 45001, targeting the core risks in heavy vehicle operation.
