From humble beginnings in profile cutting to becoming one of New Zealand’s largest and most advanced plate processing operations, CNC Procut has built a name synonymous with precision, performance and efficiency.

The Hastings-based, Kiwi-owned company has been serving New Zealand’s key industrial sectors for more than a decade – earning a solid reputation for its cutting-edge technology, customer-first approach, and a commitment to delivering on spec, on time, every time.

“CNC Procut started with a focus on precision profile cutting,” says managing director Andrew Ayre. “Today, we’re a full service, specialist plate processor supplying engineered solutions to some of the country’s most demanding industries, including transport, structural steel, forestry, pulp and paper, geothermal, horticulture and viticulture.”

CNC Procut recently marked a major milestone with the opening of a new purpose built 5000m2 workshop, significantly enhancing its operational capacity and streamlining workflow across the board. This expansion has been matched with continued investment in high-performance equipment, including two high-precision fibre laser cutters and a new K5000 plasma system.

The company’s processing capabilities are among the most comprehensive in the country. It can handle everything from ultra thin 0.5mm sheets to robust 300mm-thick plate, across a wide array of materials – aluminium, stainless steel, mild steel, medium and high-tensile steels, as well as abrasion resistant grades.

With a team of more than 40 skilled operators and technicians, CNC Procut offers a true end-to-end service: from material supply to component profiling and precision cutting. “Our strength is in our people and our processes,” says Andrew. “Every component we cut meets the strictest quality standards, ensuring unmatched accuracy and repeatability for our customers. Whether it’s a one-off job or large production runs, we deliver consistency every time.”

WearTuf: Raising the bar in abrasion resistance

Among the specialist materials CNC Procut supplies and processes, WearTuf abrasion resistant steel stands out – particularly for heavy-duty applications in transport, earthmoving and mining.

WearTuf 450, developed by international Q&T steel plate specialists, is a fully martensitic quenched and tempered steel with an average hardness of 450 Brinell. This makes it ideal for high-impact environments such as those in the transport sector where wear resistance and structural performance are crucial.

“WearTuf 450 is a game-changer for operators looking for durability without compromising weldability or forming capability,” Andrew explains.

“Its toughness and crack resistance make it perfect for lightweight tipper bodies, dumper bins, garbage trucks, and other transport equipment exposed to abrasive materials.”

Available in thicknesses from 3mm to 60mm and plate widths up to 3.1m, WearTuf is engineered with tight thickness tolerances and exceptional surface finish, enabling precise bending, forming and fabrication.

“We’ve seen a strong uptake of WearTuf in the transport engineering space,” Andrew says. “It ticks all the boxes for fleets wanting to reduce tare weight while increasing longevity and performance.”

Servicing the New Zealand industry from the ground up

CNC Procut is proud to support nearly every major industry sector in New Zealand. Whether it’s for on-road haulage or off-road machinery, the firm’s advanced plate processing solutions are helping customers build stronger, smarter, and more efficient equipment.

“Our mission is simple,” says Andrew. “We’re here to provide New Zealand industry with the best processing solutions, the best materials and the best service. And with the addition of WearTuf, we’re giving the transport sector new tools to take on the toughest jobs.

“We are the benchmark for profile cutting in New Zealand.”
