Alexander Group makes the move to Electric with Volvo Trucks

Alexander Group, in partnership with Volvo Trucks New Zealand, has expanded its transport fleet to include its first electric truck, a Volvo FL Electric.
Alexander Group is a major transporter of bulk gases across New Zealand.
“Our customers increasingly expect more sustainable transport options, and this step reflects our long-term commitment to reducing environmental impact,” said Alexander Group CEO Hayley Alexander.

“Volvo’s proven reliability and advanced technology made them the ideal partner for this important milestone.
“Alexander Group is on a sustainable journey that focuses on optimising logistics; one of the key areas to achieve this is through our fleet.”
Scott Holt, general manager for Volvo Trucks New Zealand, added, “We are extremely proud that Alexander Group has chosen Volvo to start the electrification of some of their fleet.
“Blair Stapleton, our national fleet sales manager, has worked incredibly closely with their team throughout the build process.
“This has resulted in an impressive outcome that we are all very proud of and the client, Air Liquide, can be extremely satisfied with.”
Alexander added, “As a family-owned New Zealand company we are always looking forward for new innovations and solutions. We take our role in promoting sustainable business practices seriously.

“We are focused on reducing fuel consumption and minimising emissions throughout our operations. Customers like Air Liquide are supporting this focus.
“EECA has also helped make this introduction of an electric solution possible with their funding support through their Low Emissions Heavy Vehicle Fund”.
The 4×2 rigid electric truck will be delivering and collecting compressed gas cylinders in the Christchurch metropolitan area for Air Liquide New Zealand Limited. It boasts 265kW (300hp) and a 280km range on a single charge (based on the planned delivery schedule and route optimisation plan).
The unit has a custom-built Fruehauf gas bottle truck body with a 1500kg tail lift.
Jump Charging has delivered the charging infrastructure for Alexander Bulk Gases at their Christchurch site, where the unit will be based.
The solution consists of a Zerova DW Series 30kW DC Charger.
Alex Watson, Jump Charging CEO said, “This is an economical, fit-for-purpose solution designed to provide reliable overnight charging.
“Beyond installation we will provide ongoing support to ensure dependable performance and enable the future growth of Alexander Group’s electric operations.”
