Strait Shipping‘s Bluebridge Cook Strait Ferry services are fully operational following last Monday‘s earthquake and subsequent southerly storms.

Both the Strait Feronia and Straitsman are now sailing on their regular schedule between the North and South Islands, although Strait Shipping general manager commercial Ed Menzies said damage in both ports mean delays are likely.

“It‘s taking longer than usual to load and disembark the ships due to damage – especially in Wellington – and the limited space for parking prior to sailing, especially for large trucks with big turning circles. But we‘re delighted to have both ships back in operation and to be on our regular schedule.

“We‘d like to say a big thank you to our freight and passenger customers who have been extremely patient in a very difficult week. It‘s great to have our vital link between north and south island up and running again.”

Menzies said the company is working with Centreport to ease congestion and open up another access lane in Wellington, as the company is currently operating a single lane in and out.
