Christchurch trucking show set to break…

Wigram Air Base is filling up fast as supporters scramble for key spots at the TMC Trailers Ltd Trucking 2016 show.

The main feature of the day will be the ‘truck show and shine‘ – working trucks driven by professional drivers, lined up side by side, polished so well it‘s hard to tell if they are brand new or not.

“Last time 269; this time we may beat that. It‘s a spectacle that you simply won‘t want to miss,” said Dave Boyce, CEO NZ Trucking Association. As of August the new ‘show off‘ section included truck brands MAN, Western Star, Hino, Mercedes, Fuso, Freightliner, and Scania. Other brands showing their support for the industry include Heavy Trucks, CTS, Navman, VTNZ, Fonterra, Hino, TR Group Master Drive Services, Cable Price, Eroad, Candrive, Bridgestone, Caltex, McKeown

The ever-popular classic trucks will feature, along with a new category, the ‘ute show and shine‘.

Competition is ramping up between truck drivers to find the ‘Tarping Champion for 2016‘, a new attraction to the show that has drawn bookings from all over New Zealand.

Canterbury Civil Contractors have joined the show this year and will be holding their National Excavator Competition.

Careers Hub will be on hand to highlight job opportunities and training options, while children will be looked after with a heavy trucks giant sandpit, a roadway where they can test their road safety skills on scooters, a Fonterra paint-by- numbers giant canvas, a chill out space where they can colour in, and Doug the Digger.

The show is on Saturday 8 October at Wigram Air Force Museum, Christchurch, between 9.30am and 5.00pm. Entry by gold coin donation and proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House SI, Child Cancer Canterbury, and other charities on the day.
