Leading by example

Affordable, inclusive, engaging and entertaining, Trucking 2016 was everything a truck show should be and did wonders for the industry-public relationship. In just its second time on the show scene, Trucking 2016 – held in October at the Wigram Airforce Museum – has become the go-to event for many.

The show included a huge Show-n-Shine competition, trade stands, and working displays that wowed the general public, showing them just what happened in the industry on a daily basis. A bouncy castle and a giant sandpit for the kids, along with plenty of food vendors, kept everyone happy. Trucks began arriving as early as Friday for the Show-n- Shine and the numbers steadily increased through the early hours of Saturday morning; the final total reaching a mind-blowing 338 trucks! Many companies turned out in force, which made the judges‘ job an extremely hard one.

The crew from Road Metals continue to uphold their reputation as one of the best-kept fleets in the country by winning the ‘Best Fleet‘ trophy. STL Linehaul‘s T950 Kenworth ‘Black Stallion‘ added to its huge array of trophies, winning the People‘s Choice award, and Steve James in the Steve Murphy Limited T659 Kenworth logger took out the Judges‘ Choice trophy.

This event is a huge credit to Dave, Carol and the team at NZ Trucking Association and their committee, as well as Shane Pearson and Mark Amer, who helped organise the Show-n-Shine. With more than 20,000 people through the gates, 80 exhibitors and a wonderful social event and charity auction held on the Saturday evening, Trucking 2016 was a huge success and organisers and entrants alike should be duly proud of the image they reflected to the public. The event raised more than $20,000 for the Child Cancer Foundation and Ronald McDonald House.
