The eighth generation of FUSO’s popular Shogun made its local debut in Auckland last night, with the all-new 530 model leading the range.

“This is not only the best Shogun range we’ve ever bought to New Zealand; it’s the most advanced Japanese truck in the country,” said Fuso New Zealand general manager sales & marketing, Torben Freer.

“The 530 model particularly changes the stakes within its category, delivering a level of spec and capability that will impress existing operators of Japanese trucks and turn the heads of those who might traditionally look toward European models.”

Fuso New Zealand has committed to strong stock levels – available nationwide through Keith Andrews – ensuring operators can get behind the wheel of the new Shogun without long delays.

Range highlights of the new Shogun include:

  • A new 13L 530hp engine with 2600Nm of torque. As the most powerful Japanese truck available in New Zealand, it also offers 4% improved fuel efficiency over the outgoing 510 model and a 570hp Jacobs engine brake.
  • A new 360hp model: a lightweight, high-payload (45-tonne GCM) option – ideal for tipper applications.
  • Euro 6 emissions compliance
  • Class-leading safety tech on all models with Active Brake Assist 6, Sideguard Assist 2.0, Trailer Stability Assist and Front Blind Spot sensors joining existing features.
  • Up to 1000kg lighter kerb weight
  • Premium cab upgrades including NTS2 ISRI driver’s seat as standard (heated with leather trim for 530 models), new instrument cluster, and 8in multimedia touchscreen unit.
  • Full LED lighting
  • Enhanced aerodynamics

Built for New Zealand operators

The new range features a strong mix of tractor, tipper and freight options specced to match almost any task, terrain and load – in 4×2, 6×2, 6×4 and 8×4 configurations, with GCM from 36 to 70 tonne and power outputs from 360hp to 530hp.

New models include the FV2653K 6×4 tractor, targeted at linehaul operators, which offers up to a 1000kg kerb weight advantage over direct competitors combined with a 70 tonne GCM capability.

At the other end of the power range, a new 360hp model answers demand for a lightweight, high payload tipper spec (45 tonne GCM) with easy cab access.

More power for less fuel

The new 6R30T5 530 engine delivers more power and 100Nm more torque than the 510 model, spread across a wider band (950 – 1900rpm), with up to 4% better fuel economy. Its JP17 emission rating exceeds Euro 6.

This efficiency gain is delivered through:

  • Improved combustion and engine efficiency.
  • Wider torque spread, reducing the need for downshifts and allowing the engine to operate more efficiently under load.
  • Enhanced Jacobs engine brake (1400 – 2300rpm).
  • Range-wide refinements to the ShiftPilot AMT to match engine upgrades and improve fuel consumption.
  • Redesigned, aerodynamic cab face and bumper, reducing drag by ~1.3%, contributing an additional 0.3% fuel saving.

Class-leading safety and next-level comfort

Gen 8 Shogun introduces the most advanced safety features ever seen in a Japanese truck, including:

  • Active Brake Assist 6 – improved curve and multiple object detection.
  • Active Sideguard Assist 2.0 – upgraded to offer left and right-side blind spot protection.
  • Trailer Stability Assist and electric park brake.
  • New Front Blind Spot Information System.

These add to existing technology, such as Lane Departure Warning, Driver Fatigue Monitoring and Electronic Stability Control.

Inside every cab, drivers benefit from a top-of-the-line ISRI seat (heated with diamond-stitched leather trim in 530 models) and refreshed interior styling, with an improved instrument cluster and larger 8” multimedia touchscreen unit. Access has been made easier with ergonomically redesigned steps.

Full LED lighting with sequential rear indicators improve visibility for drivers and other road users.

Nationwide support

Gen 8 Shogun is backed by Fuso New Zealand’s 25-strong national after sales and service network and comes with a five-year/500,000km warranty and 24-month/60,000km service intervals.
