Heavy vehicle sales strong

With August‘s figures available, we have the registration numbers available for two-thirds of the year. The NZTA Registration Results (4501kg to MAX GVM) to the end of August include some vans and pick-up trucks as well as 408 buses. Overall the market is buoyant with the year to date (YTD) total of 3842 being 26.1% up on 2016 registrations for the same period.

Isuzu has consolidated their position at the top. They sold 120 vehicles in August and 843 YTD. Fuso holds second place with strong sales of 101 vehicles in August and 676 YTD.

The battle between the two leaders is significant because Fuso will have its Indian-built trucks on the market next year and if the price is right there‘s a good chance they will affect Isuzu‘s sales more than any other brand.

Hino has third spot (435 trucks YTD), before the Europeans sweep the next four positions: Volvo (289 YTD), Mercedes-Benz (257 YTD), Scania (175 YTD) and DAF (174 YTD).

UD Trucks (172 YTD) and Iveco (151 YTD) slip in before the first of the North Americans, Kenworth (150 YTD), shows up. MAN (143 YTD) is the only other truck with more than 50 registrations so far this year.
