Scania NZ will bring close to 200 new trucks into Ports of Auckland in what is believed to be the largest consignment of heavy trucks ever into New Zealand in a single month.

Scania NZ’s director of sales, Deon Stephens, said the 195 units – hot off the factory floor from Scania headquarters in Södertälje, Sweden – reflects the massive demand for truck transport that began soon after Covid lockdowns.

“Trucking and the trucking industry really proved its value across New Zealand during and  after the Covid period, and that demand has only continued to grow,” he said.

“Responding to the demand from our customers for trucks was subsequently compounded  by the supply and logistics issues experienced worldwide, but this record-breaking  consignment goes some way to meeting that pent-up demand. Plus we still have a significant  amount of units due to arrive before the end of the year,” Stephens said.

“Our many customers – from single truck owner-operators to large fleet operators – can’t wait  to get behind the wheel of their new vehicles.”
