On 30 November the NZ Transport Agency suspended two more vehicle inspectors, also suspending one of their businesses as an inspecting organisation.

Auckland‘s Jet Tyres and Wheel Alignment has been suspended as an inspecting organisation and its sole vehicle inspector, Anderson Lee, has also been suspended as a vehicle inspector.

Lee‘s suspension follows concerns about his failure to check some aspects of vehicles during Warrant of Fitness assessments, such as lights, brakes, steering, tyres, exhaust systems and seatbelts. NZTA also found that an unauthorised person was carrying out WOF inspections on behalf of Lee.

An NZTA spokesperson said they were unaware of specific concerns relating to individual vehicles, however, due to the poor quality of Lee‘s inspections there was a possibility that some vehicles may have been incorrectly passed. People who have a current Warrant of Fitness from Jet Tyres and Wheel Alignment are strongly encouraged to get their vehicle rechecked.

The NZTA will contact all 993 affected vehicle owners individually as soon as possible to advise them on recheck options. Vouchers will be provided.

Vehicle inspector Susantha Ranatunga, who works at Onehunga‘s Church Street Motors and Tyres, was also suspended, although the business (company name A One Tyres n Services) retains its appointment as an inspecting organisation.

Ranatunga was non-compliant in almost every area of his technical inspections. This included brakes, seatbelts, steering, lights and wipers, underbody, tyres and exhaust systems. The NZTA gave the same statement about not being aware of any specific concerns relating to individual vehicles but encouraging people who have a current Warrant of Fitness issued by Rangtunga to get their vehicle rechecked. NZTA will be contacting all 4053 affected vehicle owners individually as soon as possible to advise them on recheck options, and vouchers will be provided.
