Kaikoura SH1 north side big seas move sea blocks overnight

1 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineJanuary 8, 2018

Kia ora people – there is a delay reopening SH1 north of Kaikoura this morning as overnight big seas have pushed the temporary sea wall blocks onto the road, still only at half the height it will be once fully built, at Ohau Point.

The south side Goose Bay to Peketa will reopen at 7 am but people should be aware that 10 am is the time for next update at Ohau (Check links below). Drivers should be aware another high tide is later this morning.

Southbound traffic from Blenheim should use the alternate route – SH63, SH6, SH65, SH7 and back onto SH1 at Waipara.

How to stay up to date:

  •  The key traffic and travel source which provides up-to-date information on weather and road conditions nationwide   is www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic  and for Kaikoura, ie the Picton to Christchurch routes www.nzta.govt.nz/p2c
  •  Important information is also shared via the Transport Agency‘s official Twitter and Facebook accounts listed   here https://www.nzta.govt.nz/contact-us/connect-with-us/
  •  Drivers can also call 0800 4 HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49) to speak to the call centre team who can provide them with traffic and travel information either before they‘re travelling or when they‘re on the road.
