Philip Morgan

In August 2025, Just Truckn Around1 MinutesBy Faye Lougher9 September 2025

It was about 10pm on a rainy night when Faye Lougher caught up with Philip Morgan at the New World fuel site in Levin, where he had been filling the tanks.

Philip has been driving trucks for about 38 years and has been with MOVe Fuel for 17. He said he’d got into driving trucks when the dairy factory at Waharoa closed down. “I decided to upskill, and I’ve never looked back.”

Like many truckies, Philip enjoys his job because he gets out and about, and likes being on the road by himself.

Having unloaded his fuel from the Scania 560 G-Series, Philip was heading back to Wellington.

Like many professional drivers, Philip says the biggest problem in the industry is the lack of new drivers, “…and some of the ones we get”, he adds.

The vexing question of whether he preferred jam, honey or peanut butter was answered with, “peanut butter”.
