Reduced speed limit at Spye Rail Crossing in North Canterbury

1 MinutesBy NZ Trucking magazineMay 11, 2018

Drivers of heavy vehicles are being asked to take care at the Spye rail crossing on SH1 between Omihi and Greta Valley (see map below with the red circle showing the location of the rail crossing), which is down to 30 km/hour night and day for the next 10 days or so (to 21 May) while the road approaches are lined up with the recently raised rail line.

The approaches to the crossing are steeper than is desirable and Downer and KiwiRail are working to rectify this. In the meantime, the level crossing will be under a reduced temporary speed limit of 30km/h.

There is VMS signage and the site is being monitored overnight, but until the work is completed, motorists need to cross the line slowly at that point.
