The NZ Transport Agency is advising that State Highway 4 between Te Hue Road and Fields Track at Kakatahi, between Wanganui and Raetihi, will be closed for five days next week.

The road will be closed between 8.30am and 4pm each day from Monday 10 June until Friday 14 June, depending on weather.

The closure is necessary to create a safer road environment by removing overhanging material to improve safety and maintenance. The closure point will be 50 kilometres north of Wanganui.

“This section of State Highway 4 is narrow, so a full closure is the safest option for road users and road workers while this important rock removal and stabilising work is carried out,” says NZTA regional transport systems manager Mark Owen.

Affected residents have been advised that access to all local properties will be maintained throughout these works, which will be managed by Higgins Contractors Ltd.

Motorists should observe posted detour routes via State Highway 1 and, if possible, avoid this section of State Highway 4 during the closure.

If weather conditions are unsuitable for roadworks on these dates, work will begin on the next fine day.
