Volvo Australia has handed over the first new Volvo FM Crew cab for the Australian Capital Territory.

The Volvo FM crew cab has been specially designed and equipped for the needs of firefighters.

The vehicle is equipped with a Euro 6 emissions compliant 11-litre Volvo engine, and fully automatic transmission with leading safety features.

Volvo Trucks said a key focus during the development of the Crew Cab was to create a working environment that makes a firefighter’s job easier while also supporting the health and well-being of their teams in the challenging conditions they face.

“This has resulted in a more human centric approach to emergency vehicle design, with new standards in performance, ergonomics and driver safety,” it said.

“We’re aware it’s been a very tough few years for this sector and we continue to see the devastating effects of climate change,”said Volvo Group Australia president & CEO Martin Merrick.

“This is why Volvo Group have signed up to the Paris Agreement. We are committed to the science-based targets initiative and our targets to achieve net zero emissions by 2040 have been ratified by the SBTI.

“This truck represents Volvo’s commitment to the emergency services, and to a more sustainable future. It’s been designed to meet the needs of emergency services. The result is a safe, innovative, and fit for purpose truck that we are very proud to share with you,” he said.

Volvo Group Australia also reaffirmed the intention to build the crew cabs in Australia.
