Daniel Dixon
Daniel is proud of his 2007 Mack LT Superliner so it had to be immaculate before he‘d agree to allow Faye Lougher to take a photo.
The tanker supervisor works for Menefy Trucking Ltd in Palmerston North and had a chemical tanker on the trailer loaded with oxidisers and corrosives bound for Christchurch.
A truck driver for 20 years, Daniel has worked for Menefy Trucking for four years.
“I‘ve had a passion for trucks since I was a little wee kid,” he says. “My first job was carting veges from the gardens to the markets and I progressed to bulk tippers, refrigerated freight, then petrol tankers.” Daniel spent a total of six years driving petrol tankers, including a stint with Mobil, before joining Menefy Trucking.
He says over the 20 years he‘s been driving he‘s enjoyed seeing trucking progress into the professional industry it is today, although at times he feels the level of compliance is suffocating.
“From my point the industry is suffering in places due to the level of compliance.” As for whether he likes his curries hot or mild, Daniel had no hesitation in going for mild.
There is one final thing Daniel wanted to stress and that ‘s the importance of keeping the proper trucker wave going. So if you see him on the road, be sure to wave!
